Connecting a Data Source to Permute

Quick Start Guide

This guide walks you through connecting a data source to Permute so you can run analysis, build reports, and reconcile your data alongside all your other business sources in one place.

This is a read-only integration. Permute will never write back to or modify any data in your source system.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • An active Permute account (book a demo at permute.ai if you don't have one yet)
  • A login to the data source you want to connect with sufficient permissions to authorize third-party access

Step 1

Start the connection in Permute

To get started, initiate the connection from within your Permute workspace:

  1. Log in to your Permute workspace.
  2. Go to Data Connectors from the left navigation.
  3. Find your data source in the list of available integrations and click Connect.
  4. Permute will redirect you to your data source to authorize access.

Step 2

Authorize Permute via OAuth

You will be taken to your data source's login and authorization page. From there:

  1. Log in to your account if prompted.
  2. Review the permissions Permute is requesting. These will be read-only.
  3. Click Allow or Authorize to grant access.
  4. You will be automatically redirected back to Permute once authorization is complete.

Permute only requests the minimum permissions needed to read your data. No changes will ever be made to your source system.

Step 3

Run your first analysis

Once your data has synced, you can start using it right away:

  • Use the Chat Agent to ask questions about your data in plain language
  • Open the Report Builder to create structured reports combining your new source with other connected data
  • Set up Operations workflows to automate recurring analysis or reporting tasks

What data syncs

Permute syncs the core objects and records from your connected source, which typically includes things like:

  • Transactional and activity records
  • Customer or contact data
  • Performance metrics and summaries
  • Lists, segments, or categorized data

The exact data available will depend on the platform you are connecting. If you have questions about what is included for a specific integration, reach out to the Permute team.

Revoking access

You can disconnect Permute at any time in two ways:

  • From Permute: Go to Data Connectors, find the integration, and click Disconnect.
  • From your data source: Navigate to your connected apps or OAuth settings and revoke Permute's access directly.

Troubleshooting

If your connection fails or data is not appearing, check the following:

  • Make sure you completed the full OAuth authorization flow and were redirected back to Permute
  • Confirm the account you authorized has sufficient permissions to read data
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting to trigger a fresh OAuth authorization
  • Check that your account on the source platform is active and in good standing
