At the end of a shift, you need a record that explains who worked, what arrived, and why planned work stopped. Construction daily report software should let you capture those details while they are available, then give the office a report it can check without calling you for every missing reference.
Start with Procore if your project already uses its field tools. Evaluate Raken when daily reporting is the main purchase, and Autodesk Forma Build when the team already works with its project documents and forms. Staying with a working system is reasonable if you can fix the missing fields or review process. These are conditional recommendations based on official documentation checked October 16, 2026, not firsthand usability tests.
Set the acceptance criteria before the demonstration
Give each vendor the same task: capture one day, review the entry, and deliver a usable record to someone outside the app. Separate headcount from hours and observed weather from its effect on work. A rain reading alone does not establish that a crew stopped, and a delivery note does not establish that the shipment was accepted.
- Can a foreman save a photo and work entry without a connection, then find both after reconnecting?
- Can a subcontractor contribute to the assigned record without seeing another company’s restricted information?
- Can the reviewer distinguish a missing report from a completed day with no work?
- Does the downloaded report retain the project, date, company, attachments, and relevant delay details?
If daily reporting is part of a larger purchase, the Procore vs Autodesk comparison covers the broader project and financial workflow. This decision is narrower: whether the superintendent can produce a dependable daily record.
Three options and the controls to check
| Decision | Procore | Raken | Forma Build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Record structure | Daily Log sections include manpower, deliveries, delays, and weather. | Daily Logs combine work logs, notes, photos, and survey responses. | Forms use templates for daily logs and other records. |
| Who can review or export | Permissions vary by action; PDF export requires Read Only or higher. | Reports lists Account or Project Administrator as the required role. | Form roles include managers, editors, viewers, and designated reviewers. Verify the template’s assignments. |
| Offline entry | Mobile task matrix identifies supported offline actions. Check each required entry type. | Mobile offline mode supports cached projects on all plans; the web app requires a connection. | Offline forms can be stored locally before submission. Test the template and attachments on the intended device. |
| Records outside the app | Daily PDF export, with date-range ZIP downloads. | Daily report PDFs; other report types have different export formats. | PDF or Excel form exports; selected forms are combined in one file. |
All three document a path from field entry to an exported record. The table does not establish identical offline behavior, access rules, or attachment handling. Those details depend on configuration and should be part of the trial, especially if subcontractors submit reports.
Run the same workday through each product
Use this hypothetical input: four electricians each work eight hours, totaling 32 labor hours. A shipment arrives at 10 a.m. with packing slip D-104. Rain pauses exterior work from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; the crew switches to interior work during that hour, so recorded labor remains 32 hours. Include one delivery photo and one photo of the affected work area.
The expected output is a reviewed daily record with the company, labor total, delivery reference, weather observation, interruption, and photos. It should preserve the distinction between elapsed disruption and lost labor. These are proposed acceptance tests, not reported product test results.
Procore: configure the Daily Log sections
Have the administrator enable the required sections and assign contributor and reviewer permissions. Following Procore’s Daily Log documentation, enter manpower, the delivery, observed weather, and the delay in their respective records. Attach the evidence, complete the day, and export its PDF. Check that the interruption description explains where the crew worked during the rain.
This is a practical starting point when the project directory and field users already exist in Procore. It is a larger purchasing decision if you need only a daily log; include the wider package in the quote comparison.
Raken: assemble the work log and signed daily report
Raken’s first daily report instructions put labor activity in Work logs and delays in the Survey section. Add the delivery reference in Notes with its photo, check the weather information, then preview and sign the report. Configure recipients before completing it, since completion distributes the report to those recipients.
Raken fits an evaluation centered on that reporting routine. Confirm whether your required fields belong in the standard daily report or another module; do not assume a narrative delivery note will provide the structured receiving records your accounting team needs.
Forma Build: agree on the daily form template
Autodesk’s Forms workflow starts with a preconfigured, imported, or newly created template. Configure fields for the same labor, delivery, weather, and interruption inputs, then assign the review roles. Complete the form, attach the photos, review it, and export it. Inspect the export rather than assuming every on-screen detail appears in it.
This fits teams already collecting project information through Autodesk forms. The template needs an owner: if every project renames hours or uses a different delay category, comparing the records later will require mapping those differences.
Request the same annual workload in each quote
Use five internal users, two active US projects, one reporting year, USD, and annual billing. Request daily reports, photo storage, mobile offline entry, review access, and exports. Keep the subcontractor invitation count identical and ask whether training, support, or minimum commitments add to the price.
Procore pricing depends on purchased products and construction volume. Raken’s Performance pricing page requests a personalized quote and lists unlimited projects and reports. Autodesk lists full Forma Build at $1,400 per user annually, giving a five-user subscription subtotal of $7,000 before tax and extras. Also ask whether Essentials covers the specific forms and review scope, rather than assuming full Build is necessary. External participant licensing, setup, and any extra services need confirmation; complete annual workload totals remain unresolved.
Compare first-year cash cost as the annual subscription plus required setup and add-ons. List internal template setup and training hours separately, using the same hourly assumption for each. For an existing customer, request the incremental cost of activating this workflow. The Procore pricing article covers the questions behind its broader quote.
Where Permute fits after field capture
Permute is the connected-data and custom-app software we sell. Once field records are available through supported sources or exports, we can help connect them with job and accounting data for structured reporting. The work includes agreeing which project identifiers match and how labor hours differ from payroll cost.
A project manager could use a configured report to inspect hours alongside posted costs, with source references and access controls. Define the calculation and refresh requirements before building it. The construction job cost report explains the cost definitions that need to remain separate.
Limits of that approach
Permute does not replace the field capture, offline synchronization, or signature workflow described above. We do not generate the daily narrative or decide whether an interruption establishes a contractual claim. Verify the available source fields and connector scope before promising an automated handoff.
Explore reporting on your existing data
Start with a permitted sample of project records and inspect the fields available for a structured report.
Keep a usable archive when switching
Export completed reports and attachments before ending the old subscription. Preserve project names, dates, authors, and the folder or record relationship that explains each photo. An exported PDF is an archive; it does not prove the new product can import editable reports with the same history.
Rebuild templates, reviewer assignments, recipient lists, and any integrations in the new system. Run a small pilot with an offline entry, a correction after review, and an export containing both photos. Keep the old archive accessible until the project owner confirms that past records remain readable and the new reporting routine is accepted.
Choose the workflow your field team can complete and your reviewer can verify. Procore is a sensible first evaluation for an existing Procore project, Raken for a reporting-focused purchase, and Forma Build for an established Autodesk forms workflow. Use the same workday and annual scope to compare them. If your current tool passes those checks, improving its configuration may be enough.
Review the handoff from field records to reporting
Bring a daily report and the project report it needs to support so the missing data and ownership can be scoped.
Questions about daily reporting in the field
Can the daily report serve as the payroll record?
Do not assume that a company-level labor total contains the employee, pay type, approval, and cost-code detail payroll requires. In the example, 32 hours describes the crew’s recorded work. Reconcile it with the approved time records before using it in payroll or costing.
Is an automatic weather reading enough to document a delay?
Keep the site observation and the effect on work as separate facts. Record the affected activity, start and end time, and what the crew did instead. The example preserves 32 labor hours because the crew continued working indoors during the interruption.
Should a day with no work have a report?
Agree on the reporting calendar and no-work procedure with the project owner. A completed no-work record and an absent report should not be indistinguishable to the reviewer. Configure the workflow and recipient expectations before the pilot.
Does downloading PDFs make a migration complete?
PDFs preserve readable reports, but may not preserve editable fields, attachments, or the original approval history as separate records. Check the archive with someone who did not prepare it. Templates, permissions, integrations, and distribution lists still need to be configured in the destination.
