Connect Xero to Permute

Connect Xero accounting software.

Use a Xero user who can approve connected apps.

Xero requires a Standard, Adviser, or Administrator role with Connected Apps permission.

Before you start

  • A Xero user with Standard, Adviser, or Administrator access and Connected Apps permission.

1. Add Xero in Permute

In your workspace, open Connectors, select Add Connector, choose Xero, and name the account.

2. Authorize Xero

  1. Select Connect with OAuth.

Xero requires the authorizing user to have Standard, Adviser, or Administrator access with the Connected Apps permission. Sign in with that user when Permute opens Xero OAuth.

The Xero approval screen lists organizations available to the user. Select the organization whose accounting data you want to connect.

Xero permissions FAQ

Check reports access

Xero requires Reports access to use its Reporting APIs and journal endpoints. Review this permission in Xero when those provider APIs are needed.

OAuth acts on behalf of the user who approves the app. A connection cannot bypass that user’s organization access.

3. Check the first result

  1. Confirm the organization selected on the Xero consent screen.
  2. For a known contact or invoice in Xero, note its ID, type, and status before comparing reports.

Use the contact ID

Xero gives a contact a ContactID that is unique within an organization. Xero warns that a contact name may not remain unique. A contact can also have customer or supplier status according to its transactions.

When comparing a customer or supplier across Xero reports, use its organization and ContactID rather than its name alone. If two contacts share a name, inspect their IDs before combining their invoices.

Read invoice type and status

Xero uses ACCPAY for supplier bills and ACCREC for customer invoices. Invoice status can be Draft, Submitted, Authorised, Paid, or Voided. An authorised invoice can still await payment or be only partly paid.

Before comparing invoice totals with payments, check the type and status in Xero. A draft supplier bill and a paid customer invoice belong to different flows.
